Madeleine Vionnet dress @ Decades doll

This evening gown dates back to1939 and was created by couturier Madeleine Vionnet .
Vionnet was a French designer that dominated haute couture in the 1930s setting trends with her sensual gowns worn by such stars as Marlene Dietrich, Katharine Hepburn, and Greta Garbo. Vionnet's vision of the female form revolutionized modern clothing and the success of her unique cuts assured her reputation. Although the onset of WWII forced her to close her fashion house in 1939, Vionnet acted as a mentor to later designers, passing on her principles of elegance, movement, architectural form, and timeless style.

It's amazing that you can learn History through Fashion. Days ago when the Decades shop was released I felt thrilled. Even though most of its items are for Superstars, SD was in desperate need of vintage. These weekend I found out a lot of info on trends from the 30s to the 50s, all thanks to the search for pics such as this one. Thanks SD for making a better SD World, with class and style :)
